Playa de las Americas is the island's hotspot, a bit like Benidorm is to the Costa Blanca and Magalluf is to Majorca.  Holiday brochures usually describe it as "lively" which is a nice way of saying full of youngsters having a good time.  A 10 km stretch of coast joins Playa de las Americas to Los Cristianos and a few other small resorts.  The beach is where the majority of people spend their days after a heavy night out on the town.  As would be expected in a resort of this type, there are plenty bars, nightclubs, shops etc. If you're looking for a more tranquil holiday, try Puerto de la Cruz .
