Calpe

Calpe is a large resort, north of Benidorm, covering approx 3kms of coast.  The  resort spreads from the main town at the top end  to the fishing port at the other.   There is also another beach and promenade beyond the harbour area.  There are lots of villas situated on the opposite side of the main N332 road so if we include these as part of Calpe, it is an extremely large resort.  There are apartment blocks and hotels bars and restaurants lining the promenade from top to bottom.  Calpe dates back to before Roman times and there are  a number of very well preserved  Roman remains along the main promenade  (the Paseo Maritimo).  Calpe's main feature is the Penyal d'Ifach a huge rock, which at over 300mtrs in height dominates the skyline.  If you enjoy seafood, try sole menuire at the Bar Baydal which is at the bottom of the hill facing you as you drive down to the harbour, amazing.

Staying In Calpe

We have had some of our best ever holidays in Calpe.  When the kids were still at home it was our favourite place for the main summer holiday.  We found that you could rent a villa with a private pool at an affordable price in the Calpe area.  Its probably more affordable now than it was then with the amount of cheap flights to Alicante  and because many of the villa owners have slashed their prices to ensure they still have bookings in 2011.  What we liked about these holidays, apart from the pools which were always superb, was being able to sit out under the stars having a meal until past midnight.  Fantastic times that will always be remembered.   If you'd like to try a villa holiday but always thought it would be too expensive, have a look at  some of the private villas listed on our Calpe villa and apartment page.
