Formentera is the smallest of the Balearic islands being only 13 miles long with a population of approx 5000.  Having no airport, it is only accessible by boat.  This has kept the island unspoiled by mass tourism. The beaches are clean and quiet. If you want to get away from it all and just enjoy peace and quiet, the tranquility of Formentera might be just what you're looking for.  To get to Formentera you have to catch a ferry in Ibiza for the three mile journey which takes about thirty minutes. The boats are fairly regular leaving every two hours. The cost of the ferry is about £30 for foot passengers and from £120 with car and two passengers (prices can change, please check).  Formentera is a favourite with scuba divers and snorkellers because of its crystal clear water.   The island permits nudism on some of its beaches ,the beach at Illetes is  set aside as a nudist beach.  There are plenty of activities to keep most people happy, including cycling, swimming, sailing, fishing, bird watching and photography but don't come expecting nightclubs, disco's or any of the wilder excesses of neighboring Ibiza,  most people come for the laid back atmosphere and the tranquility.  Cycling  is the best way to get around,  the island is flat which makes it ideal for bicycles.
