Fuerteventura

Fuerteventura lies 100 kms off the coast of Morrocco in north Africa.  It is constantly battered by Atlantic winds which have shaped the landscape. Although it is the Canary Islands second largest island, it is the least inhabited with a population of only 30,000.  Once covered in dense woodland, the vegetation has been reduced to scrubland by early settlers cutting down the trees.  Water is so scarce in this parched island that it has to be brought in from the mainland. The only industry is tourism which although in its infancy has much to offer for the adventure seeker.  The main attraction of the island to tourists are the pristine beaches and excellent water sports.  Naturalism is allowed on many of the  beaches.
