Galicia
Galicia is Spain's most westerly region, it has an Atlantic coastline called the Costa Morte or death coast because of the number of shipwrecks in the area. The north coast is made up of a series of esturies called "rias" these form some beautiful bays. This area of northern Spain is a million miles from the baking costas of the south. The scenery is more akin to that of the Yorkshire dales with rolling hills and meadows. Galicia has a mild climate but is subject to strong wind and rain coming in off the Atlantic. The temperatures in summer are a pleasant 20c-26c making it much more bearable than the south. Galicia is famous for its seafood which is the staple diet of most Galician families. The capital city of Galicia is Santiago de Compostela, the holiest city in Spain. This is where the remains of the apostle James are said to be buried and is the termination of the Pilgrim's routes which meander across Spain and France. Galicia's history dates back thousands of years.
