Location is right on the beach, good if choosing room with sea view or side sea view. Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Has the feel of a family-run hotel. Very clean and worth more than the 2 star official rating.

I and my wife had a great week at the la cala hotel its position is second to none the staff most charming and curtious. our room was kept spotless as was the rest of the hotel the roof lounge had great views the seaview rooms well worth the small extra supplement, i would definately stay there again
just two small complaints the steps from the road to reception would prove a bit daunting for anybody with walking difficulties.the buffet breakfast could do with some cold meat and cheese. niether of these two things stopped us having a great time thank you la cala

Approximately 4kms South of Benidorm just over the headland at the end of the Cala Benidorm promenade is the resort of La Cala de Finestrat. The resort is built around a blue flag sandy bay. The sea is very shallow for about 20 yards out making it ideal for children. Looking out from the beach which is lined with cliffs along the right hand side, gives an uninterrupted view over the Mediterranean. Around the bay there are Spanish and English restaurants and bars. La Cala has some decent hotels and apartments within a short walk of the beach. The tallest hotel in Europe, the Bali is less than a mile away. La Cala would make an ideal base for anybody wanting the nightlife of Benidorm without being based there. The bus from La Cala goes into the centre of Benidorm and takes about 15 minutes, buses are frequent and at the last check cost €1.30 each way, taxi's around €10.

The New Cala de Finestrat
Prior to 2000, La Cala consisted of little more than the main road which ran down to the beach and the bay itself. A new housing development started on land opposite the bay in 2003/4 and was completed just before the housing market collapsed in 2008, transforming the resort. The original plan was for a large villa complex but it ended up being tower blocks. A wide boulevard lined with trees cuts right through the centre of the development. The boulevard is lined with bars and restaurants down one side. Without the Boulevard, the whole complex would be a bit of an eyesore but because of its size, the trees, seating, water feature and of course the restaurants the boulevard adds a new dimension to the resort . La Cala has grown rapidly and new busineses have sprung up to cope with the demand created by the influx of people. No doubt this will continue especially if the huge seafront Magic Atrium beach hotel is ever completed.
La Cala de Finestrat has a large choice of bars and restaurants including Spanish, English, Indian and Chinese. You can find more information here.
Markets
There were two main markets in La Cala, the original market on the old riverbed opposite the bus stop was closed down last year after a torrential downpour created a flood which killed two english holidaymakers and caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to the stalls. The newer and larger market takes place Tuesday and Friday mornings just off the roundabout at the end of the beach. This is the best place to buy fruit and veg. During the summer, the bay is closed to traffic at 5pm and a tourist market takes place about twice a week.
Things To Do In The Area
There are lots of activities to keep you happy during your stay in La Cala, its central location makes it ideal for exploring other areas of the Costa Blanca and If you've rented a car for your stay there are some superb drives. The Magic Atrium Hotel
Work on the huge unfinished seafront hotel Magic Atrium was abandoned after an accident killed three workers over five years ago. Since the accident there have been rumours that eleven floors had to be removed. It seems the owners built an extra eleven floors without planning permission which was par for the course in Spain. The latest rumour is that the whole project has been sold to an American consortium who plan to finish it by 2013
