Navarra

Spain's Navarra region has borders with France and the neighbouring regions of La Rioja, Aragon, Castile & Leon and the Basque Country.  The northern border with France is in the Pyrenees mountains, an area of outstanding natural beauty with many species of wild flowers birds and animals.   The region's capital is Pamplona, which has been made famous by its annual bull runs through the streets.   Navarra was once an independent kingdom with its own laws and currency.  Parts of the region later belonged to France before reverting back to Spanish rule.  Navarra has a history dating back to pre Roman times, it became an important area for pilgrims making their way to Santiago de Compostella during medieval times.
