Day-by-day itinerary

 

Day 1: Madrid. Spain's capital city has so much to see and do its hard to know where to start.

Day 2: Salamanca. The ancient university town of Salamanca is steeped in history. Enjoy a coffee in the  Plaza Mayor while you do a bit of people watching.

Days 3-4: Coimbra. Cross the Spanish border into Portugal and enjoy rich red wines and delicious spicy food to a background of the local  soulful Fado, the music of love.

Days 5-6: Lisbon. The fascinating historic city of Lisbon is a superb mix of ancient and modern with some excellent architecture and plenty nightlife.

Days 7-8: The Algarve. Spend some time on the beach or explore hidden coves as you soak up the sun in the holiday atmosphere.

Day 9: Jerez. Enjoy the perfect aperitif on a bodega tour of Spain's sherry capital Jerez.

Days 10-11: Chefchaouen. Cross the Strait of Gibraltar and explore the sleepy mountain town of Chefchaouen with its delightful blue-washed buildings.

Days 12-13: Fez.Savour the exotic smells, tastes, sights and sounds of this historic city, sample some dates or maybe sip a glass of mint tea.  Relax with an evening drink at the Palais Jamai as the haunting call to prayer drifts over the city.

Days 14-15: Marrakech. Treat yourself to an unusual present as you wander through the exotic souqs, here you can buy anything from  genie lamps to leather slippers and kaftans. Take a refreshing walk through the lush gardens at Majorelle Jardin and visit the exquisitely decorated Saadian Tombs.
