Malaga is the gateway to the Costa del Sol with most holiday flights arriving at Malaga airport.  Malaga city is steeped in history and would make an excellent centre to explore the Costa del Sol and other parts of Andalucia.  Malaga is a fascinating blend of old and new, there are some impressive historic buildings to visit including the city's cathedral dating from 1528 and a large selection of shops bars and restaurants.  Malaga's history stretches back to the time of the Phoenecians when it was called Malaca, the city was also inhabited by the Romans and the Moors. The thriving port is an interesting area and although not a resort in the true sense there is a long tiled promenade and some excellent beaches.  The city comes to life in the evening with people milling around  the tapas bars and restaurants.  If you'd like to experience the real Spain, Malaga would make an excellent choice.  There are lots of hotels and inexpensive self catering apartments.  In the surrounding area you can find some choice villas many with private pools.   You can see a good mix of apartments and villas in the Malaga area below.
