Identify the actual settlement
Municipal tourism information distinguishes Benalmadena Pueblo, Arroyo de la Miel and Benalmadena Costa. The municipality stretches from higher ground towards the sea, so its name alone tells you little about a property's everyday surroundings. Confirm the exact address before assessing whether it suits a beach holiday, town stay or mixed itinerary.
An apartment in the higher town can offer a very different routine from one near the marina. Neither is inherently the better choice. Problems arise when a booking made for one kind of holiday turns out to be positioned for another.
Make three sample days
Sketch a beach day, an ordinary shopping day and a day when you leave the local area. For each property, note how you reach the relevant starting point and how you return. Check current transport where needed, including the final walking section rather than counting only the bus or train journey.
This exercise is particularly useful for a mixed group. Someone keen on beach time and someone planning regular excursions may value different locations. Agree which movements will happen most often, then choose a compromise based on routes that genuinely exist rather than a central-looking dot on the map.
Match the approach and facilities
Request a description of the approach from the coast, the nearest useful stop and any parking space. A property advertised within walking distance can still be unsuitable for a traveller who finds hills difficult. Ask the host for the least demanding route and inspect it independently where possible.
If mobility equipment is involved, extend the check to gates, door widths and lift dimensions. A flat interior does not establish a usable approach. Obtain details before booking and keep the written confirmation with your travel information.
A pool, terrace or larger living room may make an apartment farther from the beach worthwhile. Confirm availability and usage rules for your dates, and consider the time you will actually spend there. If the group intends to leave every morning and return late, an easier location may be more valuable than facilities that remain unused. Choose the particular part of Benalmadena that supports the holiday you have planned.
