Look beyond the viewpoint
The Albaicin is one of Granada's defining historic districts, recognised alongside the Alhambra and Generalife in the city's World Heritage setting. An apartment there can place you within that landscape. However, a photograph across rooftops says very little about the effort of arriving, buying groceries or returning after an outing.
Compare an Albaicin address with a lower-level alternative using the actual routes you expect to repeat. Avoid judging them solely by distance to the Alhambra: the relevant visitor entrance and your booked arrangements matter more than the shortest line across a map.
Ask for a complete arrival description
Request the legal drop-off point, the walking route from it, any outdoor steps and every flight inside the building. Ask whether the host's suggested route differs from the one a mapping app proposes. Narrow streets and changes of level can make an apparently short luggage transfer the most demanding part of arrival.
If one guest needs a step-free route, investigate this before payment. Ask for measurements and photographs rather than relying on phrases such as easy access. Include the return journey from a taxi or bus stop. A lift inside the building cannot solve a staircase further down the street.
Budget effort as well as time
Write down how many times you expect to leave and return each day. A couple travelling with small bags may enjoy a hilly base and spend whole days out. A family returning for naps, or a group carrying shopping frequently, may value a less demanding route more highly than a terrace view.
Make the food plan match that choice. Buy a modest first supply, then judge the carrying route in person before doing a larger shop. Check whether the kitchen has proper preparation space, because storing groceries is not the same as having room to cook comfortably.
Protect the trip's main visit
When an Alhambra visit is central to the holiday, reserve the visit through the relevant official channel and plan accommodation around the confirmed schedule. Do not book an apartment on the assumption that a spontaneous walk to the monument will provide entry. Keep the first arrival day lighter if flights and luggage transfers already create uncertainty.
There is no need to choose between enjoying the Albaicin and staying somewhere lower. A lower base can support a planned outing uphill, while an Albaicin apartment can suit travellers happy with its verified approach. The strongest choice is the one whose daily effort everyone in the party understands.
