Understand the two settings
Mahon, officially Mao, is Menorca's capital beside a substantial natural harbour. The old-town streets and squares sit above parts of the harbourfront. That creates appealing views but also a practical choice between a town-oriented base and one focused on time beside the water.
Decide where you expect to spend ordinary mornings and evenings. An apartment overlooking the harbour may be ideal for some plans, but the view alone cannot establish convenient access to shops, transport or the particular waterfront area you want to use.
Follow the complete connection
Trace the actual pedestrian route between apartment and harbour, looking for changes of level and steps. If you need a step-free option, obtain current information about the whole route and any lift it depends on. Ask what happens if that facility is unavailable rather than relying on it as the only possible connection.
Check arrival with luggage separately. A car may reach a different entrance from the one shown in the listing photographs. Confirm the drop-off point and the remaining walking section, then save directions that name the correct door rather than a nearby landmark.
Plan the rest of the stay
A stay in Mahon can support cultural visits and ordinary town life, but beaches elsewhere on Menorca require their own arrangements. Decide whether you will use public transport, organised transport or a car for those outings. Do not choose a town apartment while assuming every cove will be part of its immediate walking area.
If renting a car, verify the parking arrangement and its route to the accommodation. If travelling without one, check current services for the days you need, including the return. Build the accommodation comparison around the transport you will genuinely use.
Check the dining area, food storage and bedroom layout, particularly for a longer trip. Ask which rooms enjoy the advertised outlook and how the others are ventilated. A practical town apartment can be a strong base even without a panorama. Choose the location whose level and everyday routes fit your party, then enjoy the other side of Mahon as a deliberate outing.
