Choose a small everyday area
Puerto de la Cruz sits on Tenerife's northern coast and offers a town setting as well as waterfront attractions. Plaza del Charco provides a useful central reference point. Start there, or at another place you intend to use frequently, then map the apartment and a suitable grocery shop.
The aim is not to put every attraction within the same circle. It is to establish a comfortable everyday area, with longer outings treated separately. An apartment may suit town walks very well while requiring transport for another part of Tenerife, which is perfectly reasonable if planned in advance.
Inspect levels and entrances
Ask whether the route from your likely arrival point includes slopes or steps. Do not infer a level approach from a distant sea view or a compact street map. Check the return with shopping, since that may be the journey repeated most often on a longer self-catering stay.
Request photographs of the building entrance and any staircase before the lift. Where a step-free approach is necessary, verify the complete chain from vehicle or stop to apartment door. A lift within the property can solve only the part of the journey inside the building.
Allow a day without swimming
Choose accommodation whose interior and position still work when you decide not to spend time on the beach. Comfortable seating, a usable table and access to ordinary shops help preserve the flexibility of an apartment stay. Do not build the booking around an assumption about daily swimming conditions.
Before any beach visit, check the current local notices and follow the information displayed on arrival. If a pool facility is part of the plan, verify its current opening and entry arrangements separately; a nearby attraction is not automatically included in your accommodation.
Keep island transport distinct
Confirm which Tenerife airport your flight uses and plan the full onward journey accordingly. An island-wide destination label does not make the two airports interchangeable. Once arrival and departure are settled, choose the apartment for the walks and errands you will actually repeat, leaving broader exploration as a set of deliberate trips rather than a daily transport obligation.
