Count the meals still to come

Mark which breakfasts, lunches and dinners you expect to eat in the apartment before checkout. Exclude meals during outings or travel rather than automatically buying for every remaining day. Check the fridge, freezer and cupboards against that count. An ingredient with no plausible place in the remaining menu is unlikely to become useful simply because it is nearly finished. Keep the plan flexible, but let actual meals guide purchases instead of restocking every familiar item when it runs low.

Match quantities to the finish

Choose smaller packs where they fit the remaining use, even if a larger pack has a lower unit price. Avoid buying several replacement household supplies at once without checking what is already available. Ask the host about a nearly empty provided item if responsibility for replenishment is unclear. A short stay after the final shop may need only enough washing-up liquid or laundry product for a few uses. The best-value purchase is not always the largest quantity when most of it would be left behind.

Use ingredients without forcing meals

Combine suitable remaining ingredients into meals you actually want to eat, following their labels and storage instructions. Do not keep or consume food simply to avoid admitting that it was overbought. Avoid elaborate recipes requiring several new purchases to use one leftover item. A simple lunch or breakfast often provides an easier opportunity. If different people share the kitchen, agree which supplies are common before using something another person has set aside for their journey or final meal.

Agree what may remain

Ask before leaving unopened food, cleaning products or equipment for the host or future guests. What seems helpful to you may create disposal work for someone else. Follow the property's instructions for rubbish and recycling, and leave time to carry items to the appropriate place before checkout. Pack only what is suitable for your onward journey and allowed by the relevant transport rules. Reducing purchases gradually makes the final morning easier than trying to solve a cupboard full of surplus after breakfast.
