Ask what is available to guests
Confirm how much wardrobe, drawer and shelf space is actually empty for your use. A photographed cupboard may hold the owner's belongings, extra bedding or cleaning equipment. Ask about hanging rails and hangers if your clothes need them, and whether there is somewhere for shoes and coats near the entrance. A longer booking does not automatically mean the owner clears additional storage. Specific questions help distinguish a well-prepared holiday apartment from a room that looks spacious only because the photographs contain no luggage.
Pack for the storage and laundry together
Once the available space is clear, choose clothing that fits both your planned activities and the washing arrangement. Several weeks away do not necessarily require several weeks of separate outfits. Leave some room in bags for the return journey rather than packing every gap on departure. If you use packing cubes, check whether they can sit inside a drawer or on a shelf, keeping the floor free. Avoid bringing bulky organisers to solve a problem that a smaller packing list would remove.
Give awkward items a location
Suitcases, beach equipment and work bags need somewhere to go even after unpacking. Ask whether there is under-bed space or another approved place for empty luggage. Do not store bags in shared corridors or block doors, heating equipment or ventilation openings. Keep regularly used items easy to reach, while placing occasional-use belongings farther back. If two people share storage, allocate space explicitly so one person's early unpacking does not claim every convenient shelf.
Review before buying more
During the stay, check available space before purchasing bulky local items or extra clothing. A decorative object that fits the apartment may not fit your luggage allowance. Keep documents and essential personal items in a consistent place suited to your own security needs. Near departure, start returning seldom-used belongings to their bags so packing does not disrupt every room at once. Good storage is not simply a large wardrobe; it is enough accessible space for the things you actually need to live comfortably during the booking.
