Ask about the equipment you actually need

A cot mentioned in a listing may need to be requested separately. Send the dates, the child's age and a clear request for the equipment you intend to use. Ask whether it is reserved for your apartment, whether there is a charge and whether it will be assembled before arrival. An answer that equipment is sometimes available is not the same as a confirmed arrangement.

Ask for the cot's type, dimensions and manufacturer's usage limits. If the information is unclear, request a photograph of the product label or instructions. Do the same for a high chair if suitability depends on the child's stage of development. A general baby-friendly label cannot answer those questions.

Work out where it will go

A bedroom photograph taken with only a double bed may hide a practical problem: there may be little room for a cot without obstructing circulation. Ask which bedroom normally accommodates it and whether doors, drawers and the route to the bathroom remain usable. A narrow bedside gap is not evidence that any travel cot will fit.

Check where the high chair can be used during meals. Think about the distance from the kitchen, the dining table's shape and the floor space available once adults are seated. Equipment that has to be moved through a cramped room at every meal can become an unexpected daily task.

Confirm bedding and arrival arrangements

Find out exactly what is supplied with the cot and follow the manufacturer's instructions for that product; do not assume spare adult bedding is appropriate. If you intend to bring your own equipment, compare its packed size with baggage arrangements and its assembled dimensions with the room before departure.

On arrival, compare the equipment with what was confirmed, check that the instructions are available and raise missing or damaged components with the accommodation contact. Avoid improvising replacements or continuing to use equipment whose condition concerns you. A written confirmation helps explain the problem, while a realistic alternative plan prevents a late arrival from becoming the moment you first investigate availability.
