Find the terms for the selected offer
Different rates for the same apartment can carry different conditions. Read the terms attached to the exact dates, guest count and price you intend to book. Save them with the confirmation. A general platform description or an earlier quotation may not explain the reservation you finally select.
Identify any cancellation deadline, the stated time zone, the amount payable after that point and how to submit a cancellation. Also read the conditions for changes to dates, guest numbers and length of stay. A booking that permits cancellation does not necessarily allow every amendment on the same basis.
Put the dates beside your travel decisions
Consider when transport will be booked, when leave or school arrangements become certain and whether other travellers have confirmed. Place the accommodation deadlines on the same calendar. This makes the trade-off between a lower price and greater flexibility more concrete than comparing labels such as flexible or non-refundable alone.
For example, if the booking's stated free-cancellation deadline falls before another member of the group can confirm their leave, decide whether you are comfortable carrying that uncertainty. Do not assume the accommodation will make an exception because the reason is understandable. Ask any essential question before paying.
Check what a change would actually affect
Read how the terms treat deposits, advance payments and any separately booked extras. If the wording is unclear, request a written explanation from the booking provider or accommodation contact. Keep the answer with the applicable conditions rather than relying on an informal recollection.
Review travel insurance separately if you have it, using the policy's own wording and contact route for questions. Accommodation cancellation terms and insurance cover are different arrangements; one should not be used as a substitute for reading the other.
If plans change, follow the specified process promptly and retain the acknowledgement. A message asking about options may not itself cancel a reservation. This article is a way to organise a booking comparison, not a statement of the legal rights or refund outcome for an individual case. Those depend on the relevant agreement and circumstances, so seek appropriate advice where a dispute requires it.
