Ask what opens into the bed
Request the sleeping dimensions and a photograph with the sofa bed fully extended. A photograph in sofa mode does not show mattress space, access around the bed or whether furniture has to be moved each night.
Confirm whether linen, pillows and a duvet are supplied for that sleeping place. Ask whether the bed will be prepared on arrival or whether guests are expected to assemble it themselves using instructions.
Think through the evening and morning
When the sofa becomes a bed, the lounge may stop being shared space. Check whether another guest must cross it to reach the bathroom or front door. An early breakfast in an open kitchen may disturb the person who is still sleeping there.
Consider where luggage and bedding will go during the day. If the only storage is beneath the sofa, opening and closing the bed can become a repeated household task. For a longer stay, that routine may matter more than a small difference in floor area.
Compare it with a separate room
A sofa bed may work well for a short visit when everyone agrees to the arrangement. It is less suitable when the group needs different bedtimes, privacy or unrestricted use of the lounge. The listing's maximum capacity does not make those preferences irrelevant.
Before booking, tell the group exactly which person will use the sofa bed and how the shared room will function. If nobody wants the arrangement once it is described clearly, compare another layout. A booking should reflect the sleeping plan you intend to use, not just the largest number of guests the listing allows.
Allow for the arrival setup
If you arrive late, find out whether the sofa bed can be left ready for sleeping. Confirm where the displaced table or cushions belong so that opening it does not block the exit or bathroom route. Ask for instructions if the mechanism is unfamiliar and report missing bedding while assistance is available. The practical test is whether the assigned guest can get to bed and move around comfortably, not merely whether the sofa unfolds.
