Separate the three stages
Cleaning before arrival, cleaning during the stay and cleaning after departure are different services. Ask which are included in the quoted price and whether any additional charge applies. A cleaning fee on the booking does not, by itself, explain whether someone will visit halfway through a week-long stay.
If a mid-stay service is offered, confirm its timing and scope. Changing towels, replacing linen and cleaning the kitchen may be treated separately. Find out whether you need to be present or make arrangements for access, especially if the group has planned a day away from the apartment.
Read the departure instructions early
Check the stated expectations for rubbish, washing-up, used linen and appliances before booking if they affect your choice. It is easier to compare apartments when the tasks are clear than to discover a lengthy departure routine before an early flight. If a requirement is ambiguous, ask the host to explain it in writing.
Locate the supplies needed for ordinary day-to-day use. A brush, cloth or bin bags may be provided, but do not assume unlimited replacements. Ask where rubbish should be taken and follow the building's current instructions. Avoid guessing that the nearest container or communal cupboard is available for guest use.
Respond to a problem promptly
On arrival, report a significant cleanliness issue through the agreed contact channel, describing the specific area and including relevant photographs. Ask what response is available rather than starting with a vague statement that the whole apartment is unacceptable. Keep the exchange with the other booking records.
For a longer stay, decide whether the offered arrangement fits how you live. Some guests prefer scheduled service; others value privacy and are happy to manage routine cleaning themselves. Neither preference can be inferred from the apartment's price or design.
Before leaving, allow enough time for the agreed tasks and check the departure instructions again. Treat the written arrangement as the reference point rather than copying the routine from another holiday property. That helps avoid both unnecessary work and missed requirements when you are already concentrating on the journey home.
